Dr. Ernesto Ruiz, an applied anthropologist and public health researcher originally from Costa Rica, brings expertise in understanding how social and cultural factors shape human well-being. He earned an MPH and PhD in Anthropology, with research and teaching experience across Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and the U.S.
Professionally, Ernesto has worked as a Senior Researcher in both the nonprofit and corporate sectors and has held roles in public health, including at the Florida Department of Health. He currently serves as a researcher focused on health disparities and labor rights, working to improve conditions for marginalized and working-class communities.
As a Latino convert to Islam, Ernesto offers a unique and valuable perspective to the Siraat board, helping ensure the organization remains welcoming and accessible to those who enter the faith from different backgrounds and life stages. His lived experience adds depth to conversations about community needs and inclusivity.
What Ernesto loves most about Siraat is its sincerity, a community striving to deepen understanding of Islam and live its teachings in everyday life. He hopes to contribute his research expertise to ensure Siraat’s programs and gatherings continue to evolve with the real needs of Central Florida Muslims.
